WHAT'S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT REST?

WHAT’S SO IMPORTANT ABOUT REST?
“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God” (Heb. 4:9). We have rest when we learn to discern between what is God’s job and what is ours. Sometimes we look at the godly things we’re praying for, and we think God is working too slowly in getting them done. We get tricked into trying to help God out, taking on burdens and tasks that are not ours. When we do that, we discard any rest we might have had. Our actions bring frustration, stress, sore muscles, and various pains. In the case of the Hebrews who escaped Egypt, their weariness with God’s timing ended in death. God planned a great future for them in a beautiful land, but their impatience and arrogance kept them out. Arrogance hardened their hearts and they could no longer rest in God.

Moses was in direct communication with God and went up the mountain to receive God’s will for the people. But the people got annoyed.

“And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ‘Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him’” (Ex. 32:1)

Aaron and the people were quick to come up with their own solution.

So Aaron said to them, ‘Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf.

“And they said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!’ (Ex. 32:2-4).

That was a big lie. The one true God brought them out of Egypt, a God who they couldn’t see with their eyes. Instead of trusting Him, they took matters into their own hands, thinking they had a better way to get themselves through the wilderness and to a better place. They wanted something they could see with their physical eyes, so they sacrificed their precious possessions and made a golden calf.

When we try to do God’s job, we sacrifice our precious possessions as well. We sacrifice our peace and replace it with anxiety. We sacrifice our rest and replace it with strained and worried muscles. We sacrifice a healthy mind for a pained body. These things are not good.

“And the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves” (Ex. 32:7).  The people became corrupted because they lacked patience. We’ve all been there when we forge ahead with our ideas and try to force God’s hand. We don’t do this on purpose, but we need to beware if we start.

When a thing gets corrupted, it gets perverted and doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. The corruption can be either be a diminishing or an addition. Rust is an example of addition. Rust perverts a good clean pipe by growing on it, distorting it and it eventually takes over. Once I had a plumber take out a rusted u-joint. It had so much rust on it that the pipe’s interior was barely an eighth of an inch opening. Arthritis is a corruption of bone cells where it grows extensions that shouldn’t be there.

We need to keep corruption out of our prayer life and our thought life. A good way to do that is to come into the rest of God. Let God do His work. Be patient and trust Him to do His work.

Genesis 2:2 tells us: “And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.” God rested from His work, and that’s a good lesson for us.

Hebrews 4:9-10 tells us: There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”

The Bible is telling us we need to cease from pushing our ways and trust His ways instead. Don’t get impatient with God; it will corrupt us.  Wherefore as the Holy Ghost saith, ‘Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness’” (Heb. 3:7-9). The Hebrews brought calamity and catastrophe to themselves by trying to do what they thought God wanted instead of doing what He actually wanted.

The Lord already knows that impatience comes easily, while rest does not. When we get started on a thing, it’s hard to stop, especially if we think it’s a righteous, God-ordained thing.

We need to know when to pray and when to stop and let God do what He does. Impatient, pushy prayer doesn’t move God any faster. It just backfires on us, and God doesn’t want that. Like His plan for the Hebrews, to go to a good place, God has a good plan for our health and welfare too. It’s vital for us to be open to when God says for us to rest. Trust Him, don’t push Him.

SEVERAL TURNING POINTS IN LIFE

SEVERAL TURNING POINTS IN LIFE
Cats are said to have nine lives. I had one cat, Snowy, who totally changed in personality once he met his first dog, Spike. Before the dog, Snowy was kind of slow. He wasn’t as smart as the other cats (or so it seemed). But the other cats passed away and Spike, the dog, came into our lives. Snowy decided he was going to be a dog. He ate dog food, went outside with the dog and even lifted his leg to pee like the dog! And he seemed to be so much smarter than before.  I think we humans go through several life changes as well when we come to the end of something or the beginning, where we make hard choices that alter our futures. We don’t know until after, which ones will be the ones that make the biggest difference.

I experienced one of those in college.

Carbondale University of Illinois May 1970. I stood in the crowd of protesters chanting, “Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh, NLF is going to win.” I picked up a rock and threw it as hard as I could. The minute it flew from my hand I was jolted! “What am I doing?” I’d gone too far. I was already a Christian, and I was not doing the right thing.

I was throwing a baseball-sized rock into a line of police officers, not even thinking who or what it could hit. I quickly backed out of the crowd of protesters and retreated to the trailer. I waited for my friends. I was silent on the trip home.

When I got back to my dorm, I had some real soul searching to do. I’d come to one of those crossroads. If I stayed with the friends, my whole life would have been entirely different. I was afraid of the person I’d become. I didn’t recognize her. I had to abandon my protester friends and began to look inward and to the Bible for answers. The next semester at school was lonely.

At some point, we all come to crossroads where we honestly need to ask ourselves, “Why am I doing this?” And then we need to answer ourselves just as honestly.

Second Kings 7 tells us about four lepers who were in that predicament. The enemy was coming from without the city, and there was a great famine within the city. They just sat there. Finally, they woke up and “they said one to another, ‘Why sit we here until we die?’” (v.3). They realized they were foolish just sitting there and waiting to die. Instead, a tiny spark of hope motivated them to get up and take action, no matter what the consequences.

They decided that they’d make a move toward the enemy camp and just maybe there was a very slight chance something good would happen. As it turned out, hope won. As the lepers went out, the enemy thought they heard a great army coming against them, and they fled.

“And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment” (v.7). The lepers found the enemy camp empty of soldiers, but full of food and wealth. Four lepers saved themselves and the whole city.

Hoping for something better is a great Biblical attitude. Being Christians, we should always be hopeful. If a person is hopeful in God, he is practicing the good faith. Faith in a better future is a reason to be happy in the present. Psalm 146: 5 tells us: “Happy is he . . . whose hope is in the Lord.”

We aim to do God’s will, and God assures us things will work out. We carry hope for a better future with this wonderful proclamation from God: “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6).

The one and only Almighty God, the Creator of all things, loves us. We can trust Him to help us, especially when we face those life-changing decisions.

IS A PYTHON SPIRIT TRYING TO SQUEEZE THE LIFE OUT OF YOU?

IS A PYTHON SPIRIT TRYING TO SQUEEZE THE LIFE OUT OF YOU?
Have you ever been accused of not being a good Christian? It could be a python spirit. The Bible tells us that our enemies are not people, but evil spirits that work in people, many times through the words they speak. We learn about python spirits in Acts 16.

Paul and other disciples went to Philippi and “now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, ‘These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.’ And this did she many days” (vv. 16-18a). This doesn’t sound like such a bad thing, right? “But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her” (v. 18b). Why did this woman’s words grieve Paul so much? Because “the spirit of divination” is a “python spirit.” She wasn’t a follower of Jesus yet. What she was really pronouncing is that Paul’s group said they followed Jesus, but they had very unreligious ways about them. And she was telling everyone.

This woman’s income depended on keeping things as they were. If people believed in this new unreligious message, she would be out of a job, and her owners would be at a loss. Her mission was to speak up loud and long, bringing as much negative attention and criticism to Paul and the disciples as she could.

Many good Christians are walking by the Spirit, but have been attacked and accused in the same way Paul was. It is not a foible or coincidence. It is by design to knock us down, make us feel bad, and doubt ourselves. People don’t like it when we don’t fit their ideas of how a Christian should talk and act. The men who were making money off the woman in Acts 16 were so mad, they riled up the city leaders, saying: “These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, and teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe” (vv.20-21). The merchants got Paul and Silas thrown in prison.

Someone once told me I wasn’t “friendly enough.” Other times I’ve been accused of being too negative when I was only speaking the truth. How many good Christians have been told by an abusive spouse that they are not being loving enough? Or how about this one: “You’re a Christian. Aren’t you supposed to be more forgiving”? These statements could easily be the words of python spirits. Think about it.

A python is a snake that wraps itself around its prey and squeezes the life out of it. Python spirits try to constrict us and make us conform to religious rules that aren’t necessarily the Bible for the situation. They squeeze and squeeze, trying to wear us down. They want us to be quiet, while they spout off in any way they want to. Like the serpent in the Garden of Eden, they are talking spirits and say ridiculous things like: “You shouldn’t raise your voice; Be nice; Just ignore the problem; Don’t offend anyone.”

Jesus offended people all the time with truth versus religion. He broke religious rules and chose to commune with God instead of being moved by what others would think or say.

The Lord shows us spiritual matters so that in our everyday life we are not ignorant, and demons can’t take advantage of us. Second Corinthians 2:11 tells us: “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” One of the devil’s devises is to use the python spirit to accuse us.

But we know those snakes, and we resist them. James 4:7: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” And we rebuke them. Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”

We continue to walk by the spirit, boldly. Romans 8:14: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”  Philippians 2:13: “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Luke 9:1 “He gave them power and authority over all devils.”

We cut off serpents’ heads; That’s what we do.

SPEAK UP; I WANT TO HEAR YOU

SPEAK UP; I WANT TO HEAR YOU
I was upset about how I was being treated. I tried to ignore it and not talk about it, telling myself I had already handled it. But it just kept brewing inside me and wouldn’t go away. I couldn’t talk myself out of being aggravated. But staying aggravated lets Satan mess with our heads, and negative emotions can cause chronic problems in all parts of our bodies if we don’t begin the process of handling them according to God’s best will for the situation.

Jesus Christ says we can come to Him to get things fixed: “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace” (Heb. 4:15-16).

Jesus has experienced every emotional and mental problem known to man. He understands every difficulty that any person has ever had or ever will have. There is a solution to every problem, and the Jesus is willing to give it to us without any guilt. He is full of mercy and full of love. “We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ” (1 John 2:1).

Why is Jesus our advocate? Because we believed in Him. We all want someone to believe in us. When someone believes in us, we love that person. It’s the same with Jesus. We believe in Him, and He is instant to respond with love. Remember, Jesus was human too.

When we are hurting, we need to talk out loud to the Lord first. Then maybe to a Christian friend we can really trust—someone who will help us get God’s answers and not put judgment on us. James 4:16 says: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.”

A lot of times if we keep things bottled up inside, they torment us more, or we get muddled about what the problem really is. When we tell Jesus, or a holy spirit-filled person out loud, we hear it ourselves and can get a clearer picture of what we’re thinking or feeling.

I once was taught that if we say things out loud that are upsetting us, demons can listen, and so I was afraid to voice my problems. But if we think demons may be listening to our confessions, we can do like David and keep the devil spirits away. He states in Psalm 35:5: “Let the angel of the Lord chase them.”

I've been aggravated more than once by how people have treated me. The Lord has not given me a "one answer fits all" solution. The particular problem I talked about in this post was solved by lovingly confronting the person. At other times, the Lord has literally removed the person from being around me. In other situations, I've had to change my wrong thinking about the person irritating me.

But it’s always God’s will that we face our problems straight on, obviate them by speaking them out loud to our Lord Jesus, then to a spirit-filled person if we want. God’s answer waits for us because we believe in Him and He always responds in love.

WHEN WE'RE FEELING HEAVY-HEARTED OR DISCOURAGED

WHEN WE’RE FEELING HEAVY-HEARTED OR DISCOURAGED
We all get disappointed and discouraged at times and want to indulge in a bit of self-pity over one thing or another. It’s human nature. We get tired of always fighting and working and fighting and working. Our hearts feel like they just can’t take any more grief.

Jesus’ disciples had the same problem.

Jesus took them to the Mount of Olives just before his crucifixion. He told them to pray while he off by himself to pray. But when he “rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow” (Luke 22:45).

That’s how I sometimes feel on a grey Saturday. We’re used to sunshine here in Las Vegas. So, if the sky is overcast, we can feel the whole city of tourists and locals alike, groaning and downcast. The atmosphere turns claustrophobic and heavy, and I don’t want to do anything but take a long nap and wake up later.

But Jesus “said unto them, Why sleep ye? Rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation” (vs.46). And isn’t that just so true? If we stay in our “poor me, I want to sleep” state we’re much more likely to fall into deeper temptations that get harder and harder to escape, and the things we need to get done, get farther and farther from us. Satan is eagerly looking for a break in our confidence. “Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

A great example of someone who let the “poor me” temptation escalate into years of sorrow was the disabled man at the pool of Bethesda.

This man had been coming down to the pool to get his healing for years on end. Jesus asked him: “Do you want to become well? Are you really in earnest about getting well?” (John 5:6). The man didn’t even just say yes. Instead, he answered by blaming other people, saying it was their fault he wasn’t healed.

It’s easy to blame others, or the atmosphere, or our background for our lack of joy, health, and happiness. But Jesus told the disabled man he had to take a more assertive action for himself. “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked” (vs.8-9).

When there’s no one around to lift us up out of our slump, we need to take the responsibility to do it ourselves, acting more assertively on what God’s Word says. And because God already knew we’d have some problems with this, He put lots of scriptures throughout the Bible to help us. I call them cures for the blues.

Hebrews 12:12 is a good one: “Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet.”

And 1 Timothy 1:6-7 says: “Stir up the gift of God, which is in thee. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Isaiah 61:3 tells us the Lord gives us “the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” But we’re the ones who need to get dressed. When we’re feeling burdened, the last thing we want to do is get up, wash up, and go to the closet and put on something bright and happy.

I remember the words of Rose Marie, a secretary I once met. When I complimented her on how pretty she looked one day, she replied, “I always try to look my best when I feel my worst.” Great advice.

One day “David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God” (1 Sam. 30:6).

We don’t want the devil to pounce on us and take us down. Let’s encourage ourselves in the Lord like David did; and let’s pick ourselves up with the spoken word of God, like the man at the pool of Bethesda. We CAN do it.

Love, Carolyn

SECRET WINGS BACK OFF POTENTIAL PREDATORS

Yesterday I stepped out onto my patio just as my praying mantis pod (1”x1.5”) broke open and all the little mantis’ scurried out looking for food. This event reminded me of a past article I think you’ll like.

SECRET WINGS BACK OFF POTENTIAL PREDATORS
I looked out onto the patio and saw something strange going on. My cat, Snowy, was slowly backing up, ears flattened against his head and shackles up. He snarled and hissed at something that was scaring him and making him back off. I opened the door and went out slowly, expecting to see some big stray cat or dog ready to attack. What I saw was something quite different. It was only a 2-inches high, but a frightful sight. The creature was a praying mantis with its colorful, frightfully angular wings spread out wide like a mantle over her. She looked ferocious and she was running full speed toward Snowy! When Snowy saw me, he turned tail and scurried into the house through the opened patio door!

Praying mantis don’t often show their wings. It’s like their secret weapon and apparently, it works well.

Sometimes God’s angels act in a similar way, acting as our secret weapons. A few years back, I was having a particularly hard time at work and I felt weakened. I looked up the scripture in Psalm 103:20 “Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.” I prayed they would go to my work ahead of me and help me there.

When I got to work, I went upstairs to the open loft where we did our painting. Around the edge was a three-foot wooden railing. I could see in the spirit a very large angel sitting comfortably on the corner. His wings spread out to each side along the edge of my workspace. I felt protected and strong. This went on every day for several months until I moved to a new work location, where it seemed I didn’t need the added protection anymore.

Every year my garden is visited by praying mantis, so I’ve had plenty of opportunities to observe them, but only once did I see one spread its wings out like when it chased my cat across the patio.

Like the mantis, we don’t always go around showing off our stuff, but when it becomes necessary, we certainly have our secret weapons. One of them is the privilege to pray for the Lord to send angels. They are loosed in heaven and according to Hebrews 1:14, they are “all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation.” Most of the time we don’t even know they’re present, but they are strong to protect us and can back off danger.

HAND IN HAND FOR HEALING

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Rev. 21:4).

My heart thrilled when I received
an unexpected message: “You prayed for me in 1979 when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. I had health issues which caused me to fear that I would lose her.”

Soon after this incident, I was sent to a different city and lost contact. I never heard the results of my prayer until 34 years later! The message went on to say, “You said you saw a clear, healthy embryo. Today, she is 33, the mother of two.” Wow, what a blessing! So often we don’t hear back what God did for the people we prayed for or laid hands on for healing. So how do we know if it worked or not?

I remember when I was living in South Africa and prayed for Sammy. I laid hands on him and prayed for the Lord to dissolve his kidney stones. He ended up in the hospital with appendicitis!

That bothered me for years. I wondered why I didn’t get it right. When I ministered to people after that, I seemed always to have this little doubt coming up, wondering if I got it right. One day the Holy Spirit stopped me from doubting and gave me the answer.

The Lord explained to me, “When you prayed for Sammy, I dissolved the kidney stones instantly. He did have them. You didn’t get it wrong. There was more than one issue, that’s all, and he got that taken care of in the hospital.” Wow, what a simple answer and it set me free! I’ve never doubted myself in this category since.

The answer is simple: When we pray or minister out of faith, from our hearts, and do the best we know how then we can be confident that it works. Healing is always God’s will.

In the Old Testament: “For I am the Lord that healeth [is healing] thee” (Ex. 15: 26). And in the Gospels: “Jesus went about healing every sickness and every disease among the people” (Matt. 9: 35) and Jesus said: “They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:18).

In the Epistles: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth [is prospering]” (3 John 2).  James 5:15 tells us: “The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

There are hundreds of scriptures about healing and many that address specific ailments. Some scriptures talk to pain, sorrow, and heavy burdens.

We can learn a lot about ministering healing to others by getting our own healings. Unfortunately, until the Lord returns, no one is exempt from Satan’s attacks of pain, sorrow, and heavy burdens. And we desperately want our most current ailments to go away, not only for ourselves, but so that we can be better ministers to others. When we’re in pain or we’re sick or we’re burdened, it’s more difficult to minister healing to help someone else.

But in our busy schedules, we don’t seem to find the time to get our Bibles and concordances out and look up what’s causing our pain or what can cure it. I admit I’m guilty of that myself. Sometimes it easier to minister healing, than to get a healing myself. Darn! The answer is right in front of us, yet we ignore it. Albert Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” If we’re not researching the Bible for our healing deliverance, we need to make a change. It’s God’s will for us to be as whole as we can be. It’s not that hard; it’s just that the devil will throw down delays, excuses and all kinds of reasons we can’t do what God’s will is for us to do.

So let’s kick the devil’s arse and let’s schedule a meeting with ourselves this week; put it on our calendars. For just 30 minutes, research what the Bible says about the top thing that’s bothering us. And if our faith is small, be assured: with persistence, it will grow. God wants the healers healed.

Paul wrote about the Christians in Thessalonica: “Your faith is growing more and more” (2 Thess. 1:3). Let’s be like the Thessalonians. The more we find out about healing for ourselves, the bigger our faith grows in the healing category, and the better we will be at ministering to friends and family as well.

Let’s never doubt our ability to heal others. It will always work, but let’s also spend some time getting into God’s Word to get our own healing as well.

Love, Carolyn

RESPONDING TO THE VIBRATIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

RESPONDING TO THE VIBRATIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
I think we all want to get better and better at responding to the subtle nudges of the Holy Spirit. It is the Lord’s will that we learn to respond to the vibrations of the Holy Spirit. Vibrations of air aren’t seen but felt, and messages from our Lord often come in this way. To get to know what they feel like, you can start with small yes and no questions to the Lord, easy things like, “Should I wear the blue shirt?” If you feel like the answer is “No,” then ask, “Which shirt?” This simple questioning sounds juvenile, but it’s a great way to get to know the Lord’s voice.

In case you didn’t know, Jesus is interested in EVERYTHING about you, and He’s especially willing to help you in any way possible to further His kingdom. Once when I asked Him about what to wear, I got the urging to wear something that was my eye color. I already knew that wearing your eye color makes you more approachable, but I didn’t know what the Lord had in mind with this. It turned out I met an awesome woman who needed some prayer for her family. She told me that she wasn’t the type of person to start a conversation with a stranger, but because I seemed so approachable, she went for it. What a delight.

I put curlers in my hair in the morning, and almost every day I ask the Lord about the order in which I should take them out of their container, which looks kind of like an egg box, and put them in my hair. I know that sounds silly, but it sets me up first thing in the day with practice at listening to His vibrations. With the curlers, it’s become a flow, and I know which one to pick up in which order and it’s fast. I operate in a similar way at work, as far as which path to take to the restroom, what to work on and when, who to talk to and when, and who to leave alone. The more we practice responding to the Holy Spirit’s vibrations, urges, and nudges, the better we get at it.

Philippians 2:13 says: “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” But He can’t override our freedom of will, so He can’t work in us if we’re not expecting Him to communicate with us. We know that God doesn’t often speak audibly, but more often in a gentle nudge. He doesn’t badger us, but He does give us ideas and easy instructions like: keep that box instead of tossing it. You never know: taking out the trash at the Lord’s urging could turn into the most amazing event ever!

The Lord is not bored with our lives. He’s excited to be with us, and especially if we are determined to be with Him. He already knows what the day will bring, so He knows how to help us handle every minute of it in the very best way. At first, it’s like training a child, and that child is us. We need continuous reminders to ask questions and then to listen to what we feel are the answers. And we need to act quickly on the vibe we’re getting. It’s way too easy to second guess ourselves and talk ourselves down, saying, “That probably wasn’t God. I was probably making it up.” We’ll never get anywhere with that kind of attitude. We step out – no doubt! If we’re wrong, so what. We start out with the simple stuff, and that’s how we learn and grow.

One of my friends wrote: “God is ever present. Being mindful of this by actively listening for Him, is the key to walking by the Spirit. Even minor changes in schedule—that show of humility—keeps our connection with God strong. We may never see the results of our obedience; like the car accident that doesn’t happen because of your obedience to be elsewhere. You may wonder how to tell if you are on the right track. The only way is to play it through and see what you get. Rejoice in the victories and when it doesn’t go so well, ask God how to do better.”

I think of soldiers, firefighters, undercover agents, 911 operators; they are trained in a classroom and with reading manuals. Our manual is the Bible. Then the first responders practice, practice, practice. When they are in position, they learn to listen to their hunches and respond quickly. People’s lives depend on it.

God gives us holy hunches. He can’t make us listen and can’t force us to obey. We train ourselves on this one. “The only way is to play it through and see what you get. Rejoice in the victories and when it doesn’t go so well, ask God how to do better.”

In Luke 11:11 Jesus says if a child asks his father for bread, the father won’t give him a stone. When we’re asking for a more spiritual walk, He’s not going to give us a stone to trip over, but rather bread to nourish us and make us stronger.

A BETTER LIFE

A BETTER LIFE
Lord, I pray for your healing presence in our nation and around the world. I pray that this day there will be new people who accept Jesus as Lord and get born again of Your Spirit. I pray for those who are born again to be filled with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues and prophecy. I pray that Your people study the Bible and receive dreams, revelations, and insights more than ever before. I pray for wisdom, understanding, and boldness to apply what we learn.  In Jesus name, Amen.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord when I was around eight years old. But my life didn’t change dramatically until I got filled with the Holy Spirit at age 21 and began to study the Bible, not just read it. I spoke in tongues as evidence of the holy thing that was in me, and though I’d read the Bible through many times before, I began to understand it much better. I started to hear the Lord’s voice in my everyday life.

When I went to my mom’s a little over a week ago, I saw my high school picture. Wow! I remembered how alone and depressed I was. After I got filled with the Holy Spirit, I still got attacked by depression, but I could fight it. I am supposed to be a happy person.

Many people discover that the person God made them is the opposite of what they were before they got born again and filled with the spirit. The new us is pretty awesome.

PS: Yesterday I went to see the movie, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE . Let’s get out there and support our fellow Christians in the entertainment and business world.

I pray for you daily. Love, Carolyn
