“THY TESTIMONIES ARE THE REJOICING OF MY HEART”
I don’t go to the Bible because I think I have to, or
because I’m looking for some instruction or personal help on something in
particular. That happens and it’s a good thing, but more often I go to the
scriptures just because I love them.
I was on my way to Zachariah and made a stop in Zephaniah
and began reading. I wept with my God at the turning away of His people, and
heard His mercy for them, and how He spoke to them more promises of stunning deliverance
and the ultimate destruction of the horrid evils they had managed to survive. Reading
this record in Zephaniah was, for me, more current than any mainstream or
alt-media I listen to.
Zephaniah only has three chapters, but it is important to
our God. It was dramatic and magnificent, a story with details not seen on any TV
program, news station, or streaming video, and yet the colors were just as
vibrant in my mind’s eye and the emotional response was as real and probably
even more real than it would have been with most visual performances produced
in Hollywood today!
I read the Bible because I love my God, and through His written
word, He speaks to me. I totally understand that it is definitely not the only
way the Lord reaches His people. But I would ask that sometime this week you
give Him a chance to speak to you this way too. And if you choose to read the
three chapters of Zephaniah, beware! Because all the bad and horrible stuffs is
in the beginning and the blessings of God don’t come until the 17th
verse of chapter three! But it is there!
Matthew 13:43 “Then shall the righteous shine forth as
the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
Psalm 119:11 “Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage
for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.”
