POLICE ARREST AT MY HOUSE

Jane and I were sitting by the open sliding glass door at the back of the house. Usually when we hear sirens or see the lights flashing from a police car, we peer through the window, and we don’t go out. But this time was different. It wasn’t that we heard the audible voice of God or something spectacular urging us to get out the front door, but we both got up together and went out.

When we got outside there were two cop cars, two K-9 units and two more police cars turning into the street. The two giant dogs were already out of the vans and on my lawn.

“Ladies, go back in the house.”

“But our back door is wide open.”

“Then stay out in the front by the sidewalk.”

“Ok, sir. What’s going on?”

He ignored my question and answered with his own, “Ma’am, is the gate to the backyard locked?”
I started to go around to unlock it but he stretched out his arm and put up his hand to block me. I backed quickly out to the sidewalk where Jane was, just in time to see this huge furry beast of a dog glide over my wall into the back yard. I ran over, “I have a little Peanut dog back there,” but it was too late. The police dog was already over. I didn’t hear Peanut squealing, so I was praying that he ran back inside the house. Within seconds the police dog flew back over the fence and took off right past us and around to the other side of the yard and began barking at a bush in the corner of my property.

I overheard one of the police radios, “medium-height white female.”

All the guns came out of their holsters and were pointed at the oleander bush at the side of my yard. At the sight of guns, Jane and I ducked behind one of the cars on the street, like you see on TV. A young white female, medium build in t-shirt and jeans crawled out from under the bush, stood up and turned around with her hands at her back toward the policeman. She was docile and way too familiar with this position. I figured she must have done this before. They cuffed her and put her in the back of one of the patrol cars.

I remember thinking, She doesn’t really look dangerous, but she was determined enough and strong enough to jump over two five foot walls so I’m really glad we weren’t there when she went by our open door!

Then one of the officers asked if he could search my back yard. “We’re looking to see if she dropped anything back there.” He already had a full letter envelope in his hand and was leafing through its contents—money I suspected.

My sprinkler on the side yard was going full blast the whole time right where her hiding place was. So after the girl was put in the patrol car, the one cop gave me this look and I said, “Okay, I’m turning off the sprinkler now.” I didn’t have a chance to do it before because the police had us out on the street. The girl must have gotten soaking wet.

They found her purse tucked under the oleander bush where she was hiding. We figured she’d robbed someone or maybe even a store, but we never really found out.

The Lord was watching out for us and got us out of our house just in the nick of time. Like He promised, “Lo, I am with you always” (Matt 28:20). Psalm 32:7 says, “Thou shalt preserve me from trouble.” The longer I live, the more I learn to just trust Him with my life.

I could have been telling a very different story if we had stayed sitting by the opened glass door when the girl was trying to escape. But once again, Jesus was right there with us and God’s timing is always perfect.

I love it when that happens. He’s there to keep you from harm too.

Love, Carolyn

LEARNED FROM THE SUICIDE OF ROBIN WILLIAMS

Statistics tell us for every “successful” suicide there are 25 failed attempts. I thank God I was one of the failed ones.

It was my first year in college and I was miserable. I felt like my dog Skunky was the only one who loved me. I’d slept with my best friend’s boyfriend and really hurt her. My mind was so messed up that I honestly didn’t think she’d really care and it shocked me when she got angry and confronted me. I was so lonely and distraught. I didn’t realize how out of touch I was with real life and anything of importance. My heart ached and shriveled up deep within me. I was a Bible-reading Christian but I just couldn’t seem to do anything right. I made up my mind that everyone would be better off if I was dead.

I hitchhiked out to Bolinas Beach where, in the high tide, the waves crash up against the sharp vertical wall of rock at the edge of the beach. I wrapped myself in a thin wool blanket with Skunky at my side and fell asleep, expecting the waves to cover me and take my life.

The tide never came in far enough to drown me. When I woke from a very long sleep it was dark and I was cold, itchy and clammy, not from the ocean, but from the thick wet fog and gritty sand that got in my hair and stuck to my skin. I picked up my blanket and my dog and walked back up to the little beachside village and hitched a ride home.

God rescued me from suicide when my mind was so insane I hadn’t even thought about the fact I’d be killing my sweet dog. My head just wasn’t right at all. No sudden miracle but things did start to change little by little and my mind began to heal. I stumbled many times and it was a rocky path to the truth and a more sane way of thinking. I can’t say that I’ve never experienced depression and thoughts of death since that time but I was never tempted by suicide again and I thank God for that.

With the recent death of a great American talent, Robin Williams, we’ve seen how far-reaching the devastation can be when someone leaves us by way of suicide. I don’t think we realize just how many people we influence in our lives. We’ve all had a good uplifting impact on many more people than we’re aware of. And we need to keep it up.

In light of the current state of affairs which includes horrendous atrocities against children in Iraq, horrific political decisions, the pressures of work and the pressures of not having work, the realities of ageing, the death of family and friends, our own personal failures, and so many other things, it’s hard not to get depressed and want to give up hope. One person can only do so much, right? But God needs us to keep hope alive.

With God there is always an answer, always a way to get through things and a way to make things better. And each little thing we do is important. Never give up. People need you and love you. God knows your name and so do many others. You are important and every day you live is valuable to others who will be blessed by you in the future.

I pray the devil spirit of suicide never comes near you and if it does, that God rescues you like He did me.

Love, Carolyn

PEANUT'S NEW SHIRT AND THE $100 BILL

Lightening, thunder, wind, rain in sheets and big drops. 15 minutes of torrential rain blowing hard in every direction, then done. That’s our typical summer storm here in Las Vegas and we had one on Sunday evening.

The next day I came home from shopping, got out of my car and walked across the lawn toward the new water dish I put out for the wild birds. I wanted to see if the rain had filled it up. I looked down and there in front of the dish was a neatly folded $100 dollar bill. My instinct was to look around quickly to see if anyone was looking for it, but there was no one around. I picked it up and put it into my pocket. I’ve picked up pennies and even quarters, but never a $100 bill. I smiled ear to ear.

Someone must have lost it in the storm, but no one was coming around to claim it. And I found it just in time, because a few minutes later my lawn guys came and they would have either found and kept the money, or chopped it up in a million little pieces in the lawn mower.

I tried to figure out why God would drop me the $100 but I couldn’t connect it to anything at all. I don’t believe in coincidence. Saying something is a coincidence is man’s attempt to explain away what he has no control over. I tried to tie it to some good deed, but everything I could think of fell flat and God wasn’t talking. It wasn’t until 2 days later that I understood.

I was buying dog food and bought Peanut, my new rescue dog, a little dog shirt just because I love the little guy and I thought he’d like it. Then it dawned on me that my $100 bill had come to me simply the same way. He gave it to me just because He loves me and He thought I’d like it. And He was right. I liked it a lot. God’s love is a gift.

We receive God’s grace, not just because we are desperate, or because we pray so hard or any of those other religious things we do. We can pray and believe and fast and a lot of other things, but then there’s the extra blessings God sends “just because He wants to.”

God can drop His grace on us when we least expect it. It can happen anytime, anywhere, without us doing a doggone thing.

God told Moses, “I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy” (Exodus 33:19).

All I can say now is, “God keep it up and thank you so much!”

THE 2 BIGGEST QUESTIONS IN LIFE or FINGERPRINTS IN HEAVEN

I was pretty lost in High School. I often asked the questions: Who am I? Why am I here? I was never really satisfied with the answers and I kept searching. The answers were literally above me and I didn’t even know it.

There’s a new science, much more accurate than astrology. It’s called Christological profiling. It’s based on the time and place of your birth. And it’s Biblically accurate. The Old Testament prophets knew of it. That’s how the wise men found the baby Jesus. The whole sky is filled with stories of Christ. Once we are born again, the Bible says we are in Christ (Rom 12:5), so our story is individually written in the heavens too. But it’s been misinterpreted by astrology.

Astrology is a counterfeit for Christological profiling. Astrology is about 2300 years off. The astrologers still go by tables written 2300 years ago. They didn’t consider that the earth’s orientation changes and rewinds one degree every 72 years. For most of us, this means we don’t come under the same “zodiac” sign the astrologers put us in. For instance, I thought mine was Sagittarius, but actually it’s Scorpio.

The location of the sun, planets and constellations was unique at the time of our birth. God knew what He was doing. He fingerprinted us way before we were born. Each human being is a one of a kind and God is intensely in love with each of us.

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” Not only did God form Jeremiah, but He gave him the gifting of a prophet before he was even born. Ephesians 1:4 says, “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world.” Here we learn that God chose us to be in Him before setting the foundation of the earth.

God knew we would believe in His son Jesus, so He planned for us to have unique abilities and heavenly callings to be able to fulfil our individual ministries for Christ.  Just like He called Jeremiah to be a prophet, He called each of us in our own specific ministries. Until now, lots of us have guessed at our callings, but we don’t have to anymore.

New research and computer programs have made the information easily accessible. All you need to know is your time and place of birth. Then go to http://lmci.org, get a password and you can easily find your Christological profile.

I know it may sound weird for some of you, but it’s not weird at all. God knew you were coming, so why wouldn’t He let you know what you’d be good at and how you would be blessed the most. He put it in the sun, planets, and constellations because that part of the heavens wasn’t going to change. It’s just that Satan hid it in fables and confusion for all these years and finally someone took the time to do the research so we could have the truth.

Teens won’t have to go through agony and guess work trying to figure out who they are and why they’re here. Older people who already have some clues will be encouraged and thrilled to know the details.

You’ll find out the Biblical significance of the planets, constellations and each individual star. It’s FREE and when you get the data on your particular “heavenly, or celestial fingerprint,” (as I call it), you can print it if you like. It starts with the significance of the Sun, then tells the significance of each of the planets and in which constellation they were at the time and place of your birth and what that means for you.
There’s been much scientific research put into this Christological profiling, which I won’t go into now. You can get it on the website.

I pray you’ve read this article with an open heart. This is apostolic (new light on an old truth).

Everyone comes to a time in life when they ask themselves “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” The answers are as easy as a few clicks away. Even the novice computer person can do this. If you are a seeker, I promise the answers here will give your soul the peace you seek and answers to those two big questions: Who am I? And why am I here?

PS: I have to say I really hope all my friends will do this. I really want to know what you find. Let me know so I can pray for you in this new aspect. And if you have any trouble getting the information, let me know.

Love, Carolyn

THE POWER OUTAGE

9 o’clock the other night I’m watching TV and the lights go out. No electricity in the whole neighborhood. Thoughts fly through my mind in rapid succession like bullets from an automatic rifle: “I’ve got a generator. I need to take it outside. I have to get my flashlight. It’s dark. I won’t be able to see out there. Sh..t, I should have recharged the batteries the last time. Do I have any other flashlights?  In my car. Phew!” I’m just about to get up out of my chair and all the lights and sounds come charging back to life.

A couple days later I thought about not having the batteries ready for my flashlight when we had the power outage. It reminded me of the Bible story about the ten virgins with the oil lamps. They took their lamps to meet the bridegroom and go to the wedding. But only five took extra oil for their lamps so they’d be prepared. The bridegroom was late so the five without extra oil were running out of light. They thought they could borrow some from the others but that wasn’t going to happen.

We learn from this passage that each of us is responsible to get his or her own oil. No one else is responsible to read the Bible for us and no one else can do our believing for us. The women who were prepared, went on to the party and the others missed out. (Matt 5:1-13). This parable is about being ready when Jesus comes back. Nobody knows when that will be, but there will be a day when Jesus returns and everything changes.

“The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Pet 3:10). “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God” (1 Thess 4: 16).

Jesus said that when judgment day comes, every man will have to account for every idle word he speaks (Matt 12:36) and fire will try every work. Our works are to be built on the foundation of Jesus Christ. “If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss” (1 Cor 3:13-15). “Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be?” (2 Pet 3:11).

People want to feel that their lives are meaningful and that they are contributing good things into this world. Once Jesus comes back, we don’t get the chance to do it over again. We only have one life to live here on earth right now, no reincarnation. We need to make every day count.

We don’t want to miss a chance to say something kind, do something significant for someone else, give a smile, help someone, minister healing, cast out a devil spirit, etc. “We are all the children of light” (1 Thess 5:5) and we can “walk as children of light” (Eph 5:8). “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel” (Matt 5:15). Let your particular light shine.

The end of our world is imminent and according to the Bible, it could be any day. Let’s make a difference here while we can. If we think more often about Jesus’ return, we will live our lives more like the women who carried extra oil, rather than the ones whose light ran out.

Like it says in Romans 13:12, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

If we live like today could be our last, it just could be our best.

After the lights came back on the other night, I recharged the batteries for my flashlight. Today I’m recharging my heart for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Love, Carolyn

LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS

Sherry asked him if the job was starting on the 12th, as scheduled. His face flushed as he tilted his head downward and away from her. He said nothing. Sherry took a deep breath, straightened up her shoulders and confronted him, “It’s not, is it?” He stuttered a bit, “Well… not yet.” There had already been a couple postponements so the tension was thick in the air as her brain ingested those words.

To me it would be like putting a moldy strawberry in my mouth. I’d want to spit it out immediately. But not Sherry. Not one negative word came out of her mouth. She tucked it away and I was amazed.
All of this happened in just a matter of seconds as I stood there mixing my paint, trying to be anonymous. But my mind was going like star bursts, held in breathless wonder at how she was able to keep utterly silent under those circumstances.

Could I do that? Nope, not at this point. I definitely need more practice and help from the Holy Spirit to keep my mouth shut. But, wow, what a goal. Her ability to handle this negative situation so well really impressed me and seeing it in action gave me hope and a vivid illustration I won’t forget.

I’ve always believed that I can learn something from just about everyone, especially everyone in the body of Christ.

We all have our shortcomings, weaknesses and cracks in our souls. Where we lack, there are others who are strong. The Bible calls those who are born again, members of the body of Christ.

We need each other.

The Bible says, “But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you” (1 Cor 12:18 and 21).

And Ephesians 5 tells us we are to submit ourselves, one to another. That tells me that we are to look and learn and be observant of those good qualities in other’s lives.

So, Sherry, thanks for your great example. It inspired me and gave me a vivid illustration and model to remember on how to keep my lips locked.

The thing is, Sherry doesn’t even know yet what her actions meant to me (until I send her this).

All the more reason to keep following Jesus the best we can. Because when we do, we inspire others and give them an example to live up to, even when we don’t know it.

WAITING WITHOUT STRESS

Here’s the problem: I would like to be writing full-time. I currently work as a painter and I like it, but eventually I’d like to do painting as a side job, and do my Christian writing as my main job. I think I’m trusting the Lord but why is it taking so long?

I recognize the problems. I can see what a possible solution might be. But what do I do with myself while I’m waiting?

The Bible says trust. But what does that mean and how do I do it consistently without doubting? Yesterday I realized that even though I think I’m trusting, sometimes I don’t act like it. I have faith and trust one day and then discouragement and doubt the next. James 1:6-8 says: “For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
So there you have it. If my trust level is wavering, then I’m not going to receive what I need from the Lord. That’s harsh! But it’s true, so I have to find a way to keep my trust level up and stable.
The only way I know of is to continually say, out loud, what the Bible says and write it down. I didn’t make this formula up. It’s in God’s Word in several places. Daniel 6:8 says that the way to establish something you say, is to write it down and sign it: “Establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed.” And Romans 10:17 says, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” It doesn’t say “faith cometh by reading,” or “faith cometh by thinking,” or that “faith cometh by talking to a lot of other people about your problems.”

But faith comes by hearing and the best source of that hearing is our own mouths. We’re more likely to believe and act on something we say than something someone else says. If I say, “I’m going to the restroom,” I’m more likely to go than if someone else says, “Carolyn, go to the restroom.”

From the scriptures we see that the winning combination is to write down the decree, say it and sign it. With this combination, we’ll be able to be stable and decrease the doubt or wipe it out. We will not be wavering, but trusting and we will receive from the Lord the true desires of our hearts. With the frenzy of life these days, I suggest saying our written decree every day at least one time, if not more, to confirm our trust and stability. The Holy Spirit will definitely help us with our efforts.

Proverbs 3: 5 says, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Some of us who have grown up to be independent and learned to take care of ourselves have relied on and trusted in our own reasoning. We want to know why, when, how, and who. We want to get the facts up front and then trust, but that’s not the way God works. We need to leave all the reasoning behind for a while, and just trust Him. Reasoning gives us stress. Trust gives us rest.

Trust is love without having to know the details.

Here is my decree, as I got it from the Lord yesterday (with the scripture back-up listed at the end): “I trust the Lord. God is working in me to will and to do of His good pleasure. My times are in His hands. I cast my care on Him because he cares for me. It’s going to work out because God has a GOOD plan for my future. I do all things without murmuring because the Lord Jesus is with me and I’m following Him. I am complete in Him.” Proverbs 3:5, Philippians 2:13, Psalm 31:15, 1 Peter 5:7, Jeremiah 29:11, Philippians 2:14, Matthew 28:20, Matthew 4:19, Colossians 2:10.

If you want, you can use this decree as a guide when you prayerfully write your own.

Have a wonderful week.

Love, Carolyn
